The entrance of the Whistling Eagle vineyard is 30 minutes north of the township of Heathcote and guarded by a giant chainsaw sculpture of an eagle.
Viticulture and winemaking was reborn into the 4th generation Rathjen family when Whistling Eagle wines were established by Ian Rathjen in 1995.
Ian Rathjen's approach to winemaking and viticulture is harmony and balance. The signature wine of Whistling Eagle is the 'Eagles Blood' Shiraz.
The winemaking methods are traditional, small ferments, hand plunging and basket pressing giving the wines intense colour with deeply concentrated flavour and soft balanced finishing tannins.
